MANILA – Tropical Cyclone Wind Signal No. 1 has been hoisted over some areas in Luzon as Tropical Depression Neneng slightly intensified, the weather bureau said Friday afternoon.
Batanes, Cagayan including the Babuyan Islands, the eastern portion of Apayao (Luna, Santa Marcela, Flora, Pudtol), and the northern portion of Isabela (Santa Maria, San Pablo, Maconacon) will experience strong breeze to near-gale strength winds.
Neneng packed maximum sustained winds of 55 kph near the center, and gustiness of up to 70 kph. It was last tracked 795 km. east of Calayan, Cagayan.
The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) forecast Neneng to bring light to moderate with at times heavy rains over Batanes, Cagayan including Babuyan Islands, Apayao, Kalinga, and Ilocos Norte on Saturday.
Neneng may also make a landfall or may pass very close to Babuyan Islands or Batanes on Sunday.
Meanwhile, PAGASA said Neneng is currently causing scattered rain showers and thunderstorms over the Bicol region, Mimaropa, Western Visayas, Zamboanga Peninsula, the Samar provinces, Biliran, Basilan, Sulu, Tawi-Tawi, Cagayan, and Batanes.
Flash floods or landslides are likely in these areas due to moderate to at times heavy rains.
Strong to gale force winds associated with northeasterly surface wind flow cause rough to very rough seas over the northern, eastern, and western seaboards of northern Luzon.
PAGASA advised fishing boats and other small sea vessels not to venture into the sea, and larger sea vessels are alerted against big waves. (PNA)
