AN official of the Philippine National Police yesterday said they found good leads in their ongoing investigation in the case of the 34 missing “sabungeros.”
PNP Director for Investigation and Detective Management Maj. Gen. Eliseo DC Cruz said they have already identified through the help of telecommunication companies the current users of two mobile phones belonging to two of the victims.
“They have been invited by the Philippine National Police-Criminal Investigation and Detection Group to explain why they are in the possession of those cell phones,” Cruz, also a former PNP-CIDG chief, said.
According to him, the PNP-CIDG has already filed kidnapping charges against some policemen previously assigned with the Laguna Police Provincial Intelligence Branch in connection with the abduction and disappearance of five of the victims in the province.
Cruz said that several security personnel of the Manila Arena were also charged with kidnapping with serious illegal detention in connection with the abduction of some of the missing cockfighting afficionados in Manila.
The cases of eight missing “sabungeros,” including five in Laguna, and one each in the provinces of Batangas and Bulacan, and one in Manila are also being investigated.
Cruz added that the information provided by the families of the missing victims are also very vital in the ongoing investigation.
