PHILIPPINE Ports Authority (PPA) General Manager Jay Daniel Santiago assured on Monday that there are no shipment congestion in the ports.
Santiago pointed out that the PPA is cooperating with the Department of Agriculture (DA) in inspecting and monitoring overstaying containers.
In a media briefing in Malacañang, Santiago said the DA and PPA have identified 888 overstaying containers. They have been cleared by the Bureau of Customs (BOC) for pullout by consignees, he added.
Further, around 300 overstaying rice containers were already pulled out by the consignees over the weekend while an operation is underway to deal with the remaining overstaying containers, he added.
“Sa part ng PPA po, gusto lamang naming i-assure ang sambayanan na wala po tayong currently nai-experience na port congestion po sa ating mga pantalan. At iyon pong ating pag-iinspeksyon noong nakaraang linggo ay bilang tugon po sa pag-reach out ng Department of Agriculture sa Philippine Ports Authority na makatulong po sa pagmo-monitor po ng shipments ng mga bigas na dumadaan sa aming mga pantalan,” Santiago said.
“At sa resulta nga po, katulad nang naiulat sa balita, tayo po ay [may] nakitang 888 na containers na nandiyan na po sa ating mga pantalan, na-clear na po ng Bureau of Customs, at ready na po na ma-pullout ng mga consignees na iyan,” he said.
“At ang magandang balita po, dahil sa ating pagsisiwalat ng mga overstaying containers po diyan ng bigas, over the weekend lamang po ay nasa tatlondaang containers po ang na-pullout na ng mga kaniya-kaniyang consignees nito. And we look forward na sa mga darating pa pong mga araw hanggang katapusan po ng buwang ito ay tuluyan pa pong mababawasan iyong mga overstaying containers natin diyan na naglalaman ng bigas,” he added.
