SPEAKER Ferdinand Martin G. Romualdez on Tuesday night visited the wake of Director Mauricio “Morie” Pulhin, Technical Staff Chief of the House Committee on Ways and Means, who was gunned down by unidentified assailants during his child’s birthday celebration over the weekend.
Speaker Romualdez personally extended his condolences to the grieving family and assured Pulhin’s widow of the House of Representatives’ full institutional support in their pursuit of justice.
“Morie was a quiet, hardworking professional—someone who served the House with diligence and loyalty. The manner of his death was senseless and deeply disturbing,” Speaker Romualdez said. “We will not stop until the perpetrators—and those who may be behind them—are identified and held accountable.”
During the visit to Loyola Memorial Chapels in Commonwealth, Speaker Romualdez and the Pulhin family were briefed by Police Col. Randy Glenn G. Silvio, Officer-in-Charge of the Quezon City Police District (QCPD), and Police Lt. Col. Romil C. Avenido, Station Commander of Batasan Police Station 6.
Police officials confirmed that a Special Investigation Team (SIT) has been formed to lead the case. Investigators are currently reviewing CCTV footage, conducting forensic analysis, and interviewing witnesses to establish the identities of the assailants. All possible motives are being explored, including both personal and work-related angles.
“I commend the efforts of QCPD and the officers involved in the early stages of the investigation,” Speaker Romualdez said. “But I urge our law enforcement agencies to move with even greater urgency. Justice delayed is justice denied.”
The Speaker also called on the public to cooperate by providing any information that may help solve the case.
“We urge anyone who saw or heard anything unusual to come forward. Even the smallest detail could make a difference,” Speaker Romualdez said.
“This crime struck at the heart of the institution. It will not be swept aside. We will pursue justice—for Morie, for his family, and for every public servant who deserves to feel safe in the line of duty,” Speaker Romualdez added. (END)
