LAGUNA Police Provincial Director Col. Randy Glenn Silvio yesterday said they are set to file charges before the Ombudsman against a judge for obstruction of justice and violation of ethical standards.
A report submitted by Calamba City Police chief Lt. Col. Milany Martirez to Silvio, the justice was identified as Judge Suwerte Ligsay Ofrecio of the Regional Trial Court Branch 6, (Family Court), Sta. Cruz, Laguna.
The case stemmed from the arrest of Arnold Mayo, a 50-year-old security guard, at a checkpoint in Bgy. Bucal, Calamba City, Laguna on June 18.
An investigation showed Mayo, who was riding a motorcycle was flagged down for using an improvised plate number “with the PNP SAF logo.”
Investigators said Mayo introduced himself as a police officer but presented “a fictitious PNP ID.”
Mayo was arrested after police found from his possession two cal. 45 pistols, five magazines, bullets, and seven PNP identification cards.
The suspect failed to produce license and permits for the firearms.
Silvio said the judge arrived at the police station questioning the manner of arrest and directing police officers to remove the handcuffs from Mayo.
“Judge siya, dapat wala siya roon. Mali po ‘yun. Kung naabutan ko po siya dun, ako mismo ang aaresto sa kanya, the official said.
According to Silvio, the judge was no longer at the police station when he arrived to express support to his men.
“Nirerespeto po natin ang posisyon ni judge kaya lang sa pagkakataon ito, nabu-bully ang ating mga pulis. Na-preempt pa nga po natin ‘yung may dala ng baril na hindi natin alam kung saan gagamitin,” Silvio said.
“Yung dalawa po natin pulis na ginagawa lamang ang kanilang tungkulin ay natatakot at nagpapalipat na po ng pwesto,” Silvio said.
Silvio said aside from obstruction of justice, they are set to file a case of violation of ethical standards against the said judge.
