Social pension budget para sa mga indigent na senior citizens, dinoble ngayong 2024

NAGLABAS ang Department of Budget and Management (DBM) ng ₱49.807 bilyon sa Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) na chargeable sa FY 2024 General Appropriations Act (GAA) para mapataas ang buwanang pensyon na ibinibigay ng gobyerno para sa mahigit apat na milyong indigent senior citizens sa buong bansa.

Ang inilaan na budget ngayong taon para sa nasabing programa ay nadoble nang malaki kumpara sa inilaan noong nakaraang taon na ₱25.30 bilyon lamang.

“We recognize the challenges faced by the elderly and understand the importance of providing timely assistance to alleviate their hardships. The prompt release of this budget allows us to make a tangible difference in their lives,” ani DBM Secretary Mina F. Pangandaman.

“Tugon din po ito sa direktiba ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. na patuloy na bigyang pagkalinga ang ating mga senior citizen,” dagdag ni Secretary Pangandaman.

Komprehensibong inilabas ng DBM ang buong alokasyon para sa pensyon ng mga indigent senior citizens sa DSWD noong Enero ngayong taon.

Layon ng Social Pension for Indigent Senior Citizens (SPISC) Program ng DSWD ang mapabuti ang kapakanan ng mga kwalipikadong senior citizen na higit na nangangailangan sa pamamagitan ng pagdaragdag sa kanilang pang-araw-araw na pamumuhay at mga pangangailangang medikal, upang mapagaan ang pagkagutom, at maprotektahan sila laban sa kawalan, kapabayaan, o pang-aabuso.

Ayon sa mandato ng Republic Act No. 11916, ang mga benepisyaryo ng SPISC Program ay tatanggap ng enhanced na buwanang stipend na ₱1,000 ngayong taon. Pinagtibay noong Hulyo 2022, dinoble ng batas ang buwanang pensyon para sa mga senior citizen mula ₱500 hanggang ₱1,000.

Ang mga eligible beneficiaries ng programa ay mga kababayan nating 60 taong gulang pataas, mahina at may karamdaman, at walang pensyong natatanggap mula sa iba pang sangay ng gobyerno tulad ng Government Service Insurance System (GSIS), Philippine Veterans Affairs Office (PVAO), Social Security System (SSS), at pribadong insurance companies. Kabilang din sa kwalipikasyon na dapat ay wala silang regular na napagkukunan ng kita o natatanggap na suporta mula sa pamilya o mga kamag-anak upang matugunan ang kanilang mga pangunahing pangangailangan.

Sa paghahangad ng Bagong Pilipinas, binigyang-diin ni Pangulong Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. ang pangakong titiyaking walang Pilipino, lalo na ang mga pinaka-mahina na sektor, ang maiiwan. Ang SPISC Program ay kabilang sa maraming inisyatibo na ipinatupad upang makamit ang vision ng kasalukuyang administrasyon para sa isang mas mabuting Pilipinas.
