THE Local Government Unit (LGU) of Santa Rosa City, Laguna and the Department of Science and Technology (DOST)-CALABARZON met with representatives from the British Standards Institution (BSI) to discuss the ISO 37106 or the Kitemark Certification process for the city’s journey to be a smart and sustainable city last March 4 at the Mayor’ s Office Conference Room, Santa Rosa City Hall.
Mr. Jonathan Breton, Global Director of Built Environment of BSI, remarked that Santa Rosa, if it succeeds with the certification, can possibly become the first city in Southeast Asia (SEA) to achieve it and will be setting a benchmark for other local governments not just in the country but in the whole SEA region.
DOST-CALABARZON and the Local Government Unit (LGU) of Santa Rosa City headed by Mayor Arlene Arcillas signed the Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) titled “Support Initiative for the Smart City Certification of the City Government of Santa Rosa” to formally ink their shared commitment with an aim to assess the smart city maturity of Santa Rosa, identify compliances and opportunities for improvements, and certify the city as a smart city.
Through its Smart and Sustainable Communities (SSC) Program, DOST- CALABARZON will take the lead in directing, coordinating, and overseeing all scientific and technological services, ensuring their outcomes are effectively applied for maximum economic and social benefits. Additionally, the agency will promote science and technology, facilitate the delivery of suitable technologies across the region, and monitor their implementation.
