THE Bureau of Immigration (BI) announced the arrest of a Taiwanese national wanted by authorities in Taipei for involvement in human trafficking.
In a report to Immigration Commissioner Norman Tansingco, the BI’s fugitive search unit identified the captured foreign fugitive as 29-year-old Yuan Bo-Chun, who was apprehended last Monday inside his residence along the corner of Kalayaan Avenue and Mercado Street, Makati City in coordination with Regional Special Operations Group-Regional Intelligence Division (RSOG-RID) National Capital Region (NCR) and Taiwanese authorities.
The arresting team was armed with a mission order from Tansingco who issued the same, following information provided by the Taipei Economic and Cultural Office (TECO) in Manila.
BI-FSU chief Rendel Ryan Sy said Yuan’s arrest was sought by Taiwanese authorities after learning that the fugitive had fled to the Philippines to evade criminal prosecution for his alleged crime.
Sy disclosed that a warrant for Yuan’s arrest was issued by the Taiwan Taipei district prosecutor’s office last November 2023. A check of his travel record by the BI showed that he last arrived in the Philippines on Sept. 15, 2019, and did not depart since then.
Tansingco cited Yuan’s arrest as “another proof that crime does not pay and that the long arm of the law eventually catches wanted criminals who hide and elude arrest to evade prosecution.”
He added that there will be no letup in the BI’s campaign to go after wanted foreign fugitives who use the Philippines as their refuge or sanctuary.
The Taiwanese was later committed to the BI warden facility in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig where he will remain until his deportation.
Incidentally, in the course of the operation, the FSU operatives encountered inside Yuan’s residence a 22-year-old Taiwanese named Lin Jyun-Ze who was caught in flagrante or in the act of engaging in telecommunications fraud and possessing several high-powered firearms and illegal drugs.
The FSU and RSOG-RID NCR have also found several units of SMS modems, hundreds of active sim cards registered to different identities and even ammunition and high-powered firearms and a large stash of high-grade marijuana.
Lin was subsequently turned over to the National Capital Region Police Office in Camp Bagong Diwa pending filing of the appropriate criminal cases before the local courts.
