THE USS Abraham Lincoln, a Nimitz-class aircraft carrier, on Friday docked in Cavite Bay.
The fleet has 3,000 sailors, with around 10 percent of which are Filipinos.
The arrival of the USS Abraham Lincoln showed America’s renewed commitment to continue building a “strong military and people-to-people alliance” with the Philippines.
Logistics Specialist Senior Chief Petty Officer Rommel Pasive said the ship’s total mission is to launch aircraft when needed.
Filipino crew members were given a chance to take a quick break while in the Philippines, with some of the sailors expressing excitement to spend time with their friends and family.
The ship can accommodate around 80 aircraft, which can be deployed both day and night, and in all types of conditions.
USS Abraham Lincoln’s first deployment in the Philippines was during its humanitarian assistance and disaster relief operation when Mt. Pinatubo exploded in 1991.
