CITING the need to revisit patriotism among Filipinos, Vice President Sara Z. Duterte takes the lead in the 23rd Knights of Rizal International Assembly embarking on a cultural tour to significant places where national hero Jose P. Rizal was born, detained and executed 126 years ago.
In a statement, Knights of Rizal Supreme Commander Gerardo Calderon hinted on a biennial gathering of knights, ladies and affiliates from around the world – including the Vice President herself, in what he aptly referred to as “revering the memory of our National Hero.”
Calderon, who is also the concurrent Vice Mayor of Angono (Rizal), said the KOR International Assembly would serve as a venue for sharing and exploring best practices in the continuous propagation of Rizalism among Filipinos and across the globe in an apparent bid to formulate strategic goals and promote collaboration with parallel agencies and organizations.
This year’s theme is “Let’s Get Loud: Rizal-Dapitan Experience in Nation Building as Model in All Times, Calderon took emphasis in the Cultural Tour which would highlight visits to Rizal Shrine in Calamba,Laguna; Laguna where Rizal was executed, Malacañang Palace Museum, Manila Hotel.
Aside from VP Sara, likewise taking part in the KOR International Assembly are former Supreme Court Chief Justice Reynato Puno Sr., Manila City Mayor Honey Lacuna, Sen Francis Tolentino, Rep. Marcelino Libanan, Gov. Jerry Singson, former Presidential Adviser Mark Llandro Mendoza, French Embassy Cultural Attache Marc Piton, Foreign Affairs Sec. Eduardo De Vega and former Rizal Vice Gov. Frisco San Juan Jr., among others.
Members of the KOR Council of Elders – former Supreme Court Chief Justice Hilario Davide, former Sen. Joey Lina, Jesus David, Prof. Virgilio Esguerra, Pablo Trillana Reghis Romero II, Jeremias Singson and Elihu Ybanez are also expected to join international gathering .
