THREE people on Wednesday night died while four others were injured in a grenade explosion during brawl among teenagers in Cavite City.
The incident prompted the local government unit to impose a curfew for minors.
Police identified the fatalities as Julius Tindoc, Joseph Barrera, a 53-year-old barangay tanod; and Mark Gio Layug, 28.
The three died while being treated at the Divine Grace Hospital in General Trias City.
Eighteen-year-old Reymart Patricio, who was also rushed to the same hospital, is in serious condition.
The wounded were Erickson Valenzuela, 22; 45-year-old Alejandro Dizon who is also a barangay tanod; and suspect Arjay Camacho, 18.
Valenzuela and Dizon were taken to the Philippine General Hospital while Camacho was brought to the Cavite Medical Center.
A report submitted to Cavite Police Provincial Office director Col. Christopher F. Olazo showed that the blast occurred on Benitez St., Bgy. 8, Cavite City around 11:35 p.m. on Wednesday.
Two groups of male teenagers figured in a brawl in nearby Bgy. 10-A, where they threw stones at each other.
The fight continued until the teenagers reached Benitez St., where responding officials of nearby Bgy. 11 tried to pacify them.
While trying to pacify the two groups, several barangay tanods saw one of the teenagers holding a hand grenade and threatening to detonate it.
The barangay security officers scuffled for the grenade until the suspect, who was later identified as Camacho, managed to remove the pin, causing the grenade to explode.
The victims, including suspect Camacho, were rushed to different hospitals, where three died and four are still being treated.
Camacho is currently under hospital arrest while another minor, a 17-year-old boy who was also identified as a suspect, is in the custody of the City Social Welfare and Development Office.
Cavite City Mayor Denver Chua extended his deepest condolences to the families of the victims..
As a result of the incident, the local government unit of Cavite City immediately imposed a curfew for minors.
Starting yesterday, all persons aged 18 years and below will not be allowed to go out from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
