THE Provincial Government of Laguna, under the leadership of Governor Sol Aragones, is set to build a five-story annex building at the Dr. Jose P. Rizal Memorial Provincial District Hospital in Calamba City to ease congestion in its overcrowded emergency room and further enhance healthcare services for Lagunenses.
Governor Aragones announced the plan during a Facebook Live with hospital employees on October 21, 2025. “Yung ikalimang palapag, gagawin natin dormitory ng mga nagbabantay, plus lalagyan natin ng dormitory para sa mga nurse at doktor,” she said, explaining that the upper floor will serve as a dormitory for watchers and hospital staff, while the lower floors will house an expanded emergency room and additional wards.
Hospital Chief Dr. Petersan Uy said they have already coordinated with the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) for permits to clear trees at the construction site and requested 500 replacement seedlings from the Field Agricultural Extension Services (FAES) to ensure environmental balance.
Dr. Uy made the appeal during Governor Aragones’ visit to the hospital on October 13, 2025, when she personally delivered anti-rabies vaccine vials as part of her continuing efforts to strengthen healthcare programs and ensure the availability of essential medical supplies. “Sir, kailangan namin ng kapalit na 500 seedlings para dun sa puputuling puno. Nag-a-advance thank you na ako sa ibibigay mong 500 seedlings, sir,” said Dr. Uy in his message to FAES Head Marlon Tobias.
The upcoming project reflects the provincial government’s commitment to accessible healthcare, environmental responsibility, and the welfare of medical frontliners, aiming to make the hospital a more efficient and patient-friendly facility for Lagunenses
