SIX suspects linked to the murder of Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo and several others are now uncooperative, Justice Secretary Jesus Crispin Remulla revealed on Monday.
According to Remulla, the suspects who had previously expressed their willingness to collaborate with the authorities declined to cooperate, causing delays in the filing of murder charges against Negros Oriental Rep. Arnie Teves at the Department of Justice (DOJ).
Remulla said the suspects’ lack of cooperation came after they sought legal representation.
The DOJ Secretary expressed confidence that formal charges could still be filed by Tuesday, adding that any recantation would not undermine the ongoing cases.
Teves earlier denied any involvement in Degamo’s assassination last March 4.
The lawmaker is currently abroad but vowed to return to the country once his safety concerns have been adequately addressed.
Heavily-armed individuals clad in camouflage uniforms launched the gun attack against Degamo who was then tending to beneficiaries of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps) in his home in Pamplona town.
The massacre occurred 19 days after the Supreme Court declared him the winner in the hotly-contested gubernatorial race in the province.
